The Horse in the Chinese zodiac
The Horse is the zodiac's free spirit: energetic, warm and happiest when moving. Horses bring life to a room and rarely stay in one place for long, in body or in mind.
Horses are born in 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014 and 2026. They are independent, direct and sociable, and they value freedom more than almost any other sign.

At their best
Horses are optimistic, honest and full of energy. They make friends easily, say what they think and get things moving. A Horse is the person who turns a plan into a trip and a trip into a story.
To watch
Horses lose interest quickly and can leave things unfinished. They dislike being fenced in and sometimes bolt from commitments that were going fine. The trait to manage is impatience; the best Horses learn that staying is sometimes the braver move.
The Horse in love and at work
In love
Horses are warm, fun and loyal once they choose, but they need room to breathe. A partner who tries to hold on tightly will feel them pull away. Their traditional matches are the Goat, the Tiger and the Dog; the Rat is the classic clash.
At work
Horses suit sales, travel, sport, events, teaching and any work with variety and people in it. They are great at opening doors and lifting morale. They do less well in repetitive roles or under close supervision.
Matches follow the traditional harmony and clash pairings. Try any two signs on the compatibility checker.

The Horse in 2027, the Year of the Fire Goat
After the intensity of your own Fire Horse year in 2026, 2027 feels like a reward. Relationships, support and steadier progress come more easily.
Questions
- Why is the Fire Horse year famous?
- The Fire Horse comes round every sixty years, most recently in 1966 and next in 2026. In Japan an old superstition held that Fire Horse women brought misfortune, and the birth rate in 1966 fell sharply as a result. The belief has faded, and in Chinese astrology the Fire Horse is simply the most energetic Horse of all.
- Which years are Horse years?
- 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026. Each starts at Lunar New Year, not 1 January, so a January or early February birthday usually belongs to the previous sign.
- Is 2027 a good year for the Horse?
- Harmony year. Horse and Goat are a 'six harmonies' pair, one of the closest matches in the zodiac, so 2027 traditionally supports the Horse. The Horse 2027 forecast goes through career, money, love and wellbeing.
